Rev. (Dr.) John D. Harris is a native of Washington County, Texas. He is the married to First Lady Helen Harris and he has three children: Karen (deceased), Cecilia, and Joye. Dr. & Mrs. Harris have five grandchildren: Michael, Christopher, Alexander, Jonathan, and Joshua.
As recorded in the recently published church history book (The Battle is the Lord's: The 145-Year History of Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church), Rev. Harris can trace his lineage to two early members of the church. He is the great-great-grandson of Rev. Moses Johnson, who was Mt. Rose's 4th pastor (1876-1898). He is also the great-great-grandson of Samuel (Seward) Harris, one of the founding members of Mt. Rose.
